Emil Bergquist was selected by House District 91 members of the Sedgwick County Republican Precinct Committee to fill the remainder of a vacant house seat. The district was vacated by former Rep. Greg Lakin, who was appointed chief medical officer for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment by Governor Sam Brownback.
Representative-Elect Bergquist is a long time Park City mayor and city council member, who served the city as mayor from 2001 to 2005, and again from 2009 until 2013. He has served on the council for a total of 16 years.
Emil will be sworn in as a state legislator in Topeka later this week and plans to run for a full term in the legislature this fall.
